Who We Are
WhizKids is a state funded 501(c)3 tax-exempt organization that helps elementary, middle and high school students become involved with math and science. The WhizKids staff devotes personalized attention to individual students and classrooms. Our staff also consults schools on how to set up or improve an established science program, again on a personal basis. Our focus is threefold:
1. Increase appreciation of math and science among young men and women
The directors and staff of the WhizKids Foundation wish to increase appreciation of math and science among young men and women and to provide special encouragement to those who find math and science challenging; every student interested will be included. WhizKids will help to find projects that are of interest to the students working with us. After discussion sessions, trips to local science museums, and other visits to professional laboratory settings, each student will pick a project to pursue. WhizKids assists and encourages students to compete in science fairs at the local, regional and national level.
2. Involve our participants in scientific research and science fairs
Our goal as directors of the WhizKids Foundation is to positively impact the lives of elementary, middle and high school students by involving them in research projects and science fairs. WhizKids hopes to offer classes and informational sessions so that students become aware of various scientific opportunities. Likewise, students in the program will do research projects and will participate in science fairs so that they are exposed to the professional scientific workplace.
3. Help the participants gain valuable life skills
By participating in our programs, WhizKids believes that students will gain poise, confidence, and knowledge. Likewise, participants will benefit from our lectures in the STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) areas, from performing hands-on science experiments, winning prizes such as scholarship money, meeting professionals in various scientific disciplines, and interacting with other students from around the world.
