Instructor

Chuan Thor brings over ten years of experience as a venture capitalist and international business executive to Highland Capital Partners. At Highland, Chuan focuses on new investment opportunities and apply his business development expertise to help Highland-backed companies expand into Asia. Chuan is actively involved with Qihoo and is a Board Observer.

Prior to Highland, Chuan was a Partner at JAFCO America Ventures, responsible for JAFCO’s venture investment operations on the east coast. He divided his time between venture investments and Asia business development activities, with a particular focus on telecommunication technologies and services. During this period, Chuan actively worked with Pirus Networks (acquired by Sun Microsystems), Crescent Networks (acquired by Marconi) and edocs (acquired by Siebel).

Earlier in his career, Chuan worked at the headquarters of JAFCO Group in Japan as an investment professional for its International IT Investment Group. While at JAFCO Tokyo, Chuan has worked on several data communications and telecom investments in China, Japan, and North America. He also helped US-based portfolio companies establish alliances and strategic partnerships for entering the Asia market, working with such organizations as Ciena, Brocade, Nvidia and GoDigital Networks.

Speaker

Marc Hodosh is President of ID One. ID One specialized in facial recognition technology, until recently selling its facial recognition, government business, to an undisclosed corporation. Marc continues as an advisor to leaders in the field of biometrics as well as numerous other emerging technologies. Most recently, he has primarily been working with inventor Dean Kamen of DEKA Research.

Prior to ID One, Marc was Director of Business Development at Viisage Technology (NYSE: ID), a biometric & secure ID company. In this role, he led business partnerships and developed new strategic programs & alliances, while providing the company with a patent pending business concept.

Marc has been featured in publications including Entrepreneur, and Inc. Magazine. He holds a BA in Psychology/Neuroscience from Ithaca College and a Masters in Medicine from Boston University Medical School. He enjoys volunteering as Chairman for Boston's FIRST Robotics competition and spent many years as a volunteer Emergency Medical Technician (EMT).

What Happened in the Classroom

Instructor Mr. Chuan Thor from Highland Capital Partners gave an introduction to the YES 2.0 Program students about business plan.

Speaker Mr. Marc Hodosh rode to the classroom with a Segway Personal Transporter. Marc talked to the class about his personal entrepreneurship experiences. Students were playing with the transporter after class.
