Instructor

Stephen Y. Chow is a partner at the Boston law firm, Burns & Levinson LLP, where he is a patent lawyer and business lawyer handling both corporate transactions and trials, primarily for technology companies. Mr. Chow was born in Mississippi of southern Chinese descent, grew up in New York City, attending Brooklyn Technical High School, and earned bachelor and master degrees in physics at Harvard and a juris doctor degree at Columbia. He practiced in New York City in antitrust and securities law before returning to Boston where he worked at law firms in a range of sizes, representing companies such as Digital Equipment Corporation and those founded by former Digital engineers

Mr. Chow is active in developing legislation underlying electronic commerce, notably as member of the National Conference of Commissioners on Uniform State Laws and as a member of the American Law Institute, He is the author of a legal text, E-Commerce and Communications, and teaches on the adjunct faculty of Suffolk Law School. Mr. Chow has served on the Massachusetts Judicial Nominating Commission and has been selected from time to time by the Massachusetts Superior Court to help with discovery of electronic evidence. He is a long-time member of the board of directors for the Asian-American Lawyers Association of Massachusetts.

Julian Orbanes raised over $1,000,000 seed capital, was issued 2 Patents, and completed a multi-million unit distribution deal with Sony Corporation. Self-taught at age 5 with Atari BASIC, Mr. Orbanes has 25 years programming experience. For 13 years, Mr. Orbanes has asked the question -- Why doesn't practical software play like video games and movies? Since 1998, Julian has been the CTO, and ultimately the CEO of GeoPhoenix, Inc, an MIT 50k start-up with MIT Media Lab connections. Mr. Orbanes' career is defined by successful innovation via leading-edge prototypes and mass-marketed products. He is able to play important roles such as team-leader, dedicated employee, technology evangelist, sales associate, fund-raiser, and contractor to Fortune 1000 companies. Mr. Orbanes is comfortable addressing large audiences and industry leaders from Asia to Europe. Mr. Orbanes technology was featured in Forbes Magazine and MIT's Technology Review.
